2022 Finca Terrerazo

BLEND | 100% Bobal

VINEYARDS | Toni Sarrion champions the variety Bobal, working on clonal selections and strict vineyard management for smaller and looser clusters. Finca Terrerazo is from two plots planted in 1945 and 1970 on dolamite limestone soil with chalky sand at 800 m.

WINEMAKING |The plots are vinified separately by soil type with indigenous yeasts and undergo malolactic and aging in large, French oak vats and concrete.

“The 2022 Finca Terrerazo wants to showcase their climate and soils through Bobal grapes in their Mediterranean location, from vines planted in 1945 and 1970. It fermented in 3,500- and 5,000-liter oak vats, where the wine underwent malolactic and 18 months of aging. It was the earliest harvest in their history, a year that gave them a lot of work. The wine has a smoky and spicy twist, aromas of ripe berry fruit and tons of Mediterranean herbs. It has 14% alcohol (not too high), a pH of 3.46 and 5.9 grams of acidity. It has a medium-bodied palate with clean and defined flavors, tasty and with abundant, very chalky and silky tannins, long and fresh, with elegance, avoiding the excess ripeness the vintage would have given, with less volume but better finesse. 28,908 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2024. They didn't produce Quincha Corral in 2022, and those grapes made it into this blend, which was surely improved because of that. The wine comes through as a triumph over the natural conditions of the year.”- Luis Gutierrez

“The 2022 Finca Terrerazo is a Vino de Pago from Valencia, made from 100% Bobal and was aged two years in foudres. It offers pomegranate, sour cherry, dried flowers and thyme with a light oak note. Agile and taut, the palate has chalky grip and juicy freshness with fine yet reactive tannins. Unlike most Spanish reds, this Bobal is all about finesse and tension rather than weight—the antithesis of Tempranillo."
